Eben was the son of Andrew Hatch and Polly Amanda Welton Hatch.
He married Elizabeth Ann Tuthill before 1857. Their children:Amanda, Alice Jane, James, Ernest, Mary, Nellie, Andress, Amy and Lynn Hatch.

Last Wednesday - evening death came to E. W. Hatch at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Ward, with, whom he had made his home for the past twenty years. The end came peacefully and quietly without attributing pain at ten o'clock in the evening.
The death of Mr. Hatch marks the passing of one of the oldest men In O'Brien County. He was the grandson of a revolutionary soldier.
Ebcn Welton Hatch was born December 5, 1830 in Bath, Summitt county, Ohio, and died April 4, 1928, being 97 years, four months and one day. old.
He was married to Elizabeth Ann Cutbill [sic] on January 4th, 1804, and to this unlon were born nine children, five of whom aro living; James P., Andrus E., and Mrs. George Ward, all of Primghar, Mrs. E. G. Shaeffer, of Garrison, la., and Lynn Hatch, of Ohio,
He was preceded In death by Amanda Peek, Alice J. Brown and Mary and Earnest.
Deceased leaves to mourn his death these five children, thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He and his family moved to Clattaville, Wis., in 1863, where he lived eight years, then moving to Benton County, Iowa where they lived on a farm near LaPort City until 1893. Mrs. Hatch died and was buried in the family lot at LaPorte near their son Ernest.
At an early age, Mr. Hatch united with the Free Will Baptist Church and kept that faith, althoug attending the Congregational Church at Primghar with his family. For the past fifteen years he has not taken any active part on account of his infirmity. Grandfather Hatch made his life; he stood for the right at all times. The truth to him was sacred. There was no question between right and wrong and he definitely took his stand. He was ready to meet his Master and no more fitting words could be said than those found in Genises 15:15, "And thous shalt go to they fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age."
Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. W.A. Michael officiating. The remains were then taken to LaPorte City where services and burial were conducted.
Mr. Hatch was the grandfather of Mrs. Francis Cowan and Mr. Welton Peek of Paullina.
