Mary Ellen Baker Day, 68 of Catlettsburg parted this life Tuesday August 1, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Hyden, KY June 27, 1949 to the late John D. and Della Fouts Baker of Smilax, KY. She was a student at Leslie County High School. She was a member of Fallsburg Homemakers, Louisa, KY. Mary worked at Rankins Grocery, Nanny’s Place, and Boyds Varity. Mary was a faithful member of the Laurel Gap Free Will Baptist Church, Catlettsburg, KY. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated hard worker until she became ill.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles Ray Day, son, Charles “Catfish” Day, Jr (Love) of Dunlow, WV, daughters, Connie Carter (James) of Louisa, KY, Trina Boyd (Keith) of Louisa, KY, and Gina Ulengchong (Pete) of Columbia, SC, one sister Beulah Callahan of Hyden, KY. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law Ruthie Baker of Smilax, KY, and Beth Baker of Texas, 20 grandchilderen, 18 great grandchildren, plus a host of family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents John D. and Della Baker, brothers Rufus Baker and Grover Baker, sisters Lula Wells and Iness Singletary ,son Christopher Day, grandsons Charles Ray “Bub” Day, III and Zachary Ulengchong, and nephew Kenny Baker. She will forever be loved and missed by everyone.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Day will be at 1:00pm Tuesday August 8, 2017 at the Neal Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg. Pastor J.C. Caudill will officiate. Final resting place in Blankenship / Day Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Monday evening at the Funeral Home. Mary’s family will serve as casket bearers.
