Curtis John Allen went home to our lord on Friday July 28, 2017.
Curtis was born on January 22, 1940 in Mercer, Wisconsin to parents H. Wesley Allen and Ellen G. (Heyman) Allen.
He grew up in Watersmeet Michigan. Not only did Curtis graduate from Watersmeet with honors, he was class president, Valedictorian and played multiple sports.
On August 2, 1963 he married Edith “Sammie” Janet Christian and they lived in Leaburg, Oregon.
Curtis worked for the U.S. Forest Service at Blue River Ranger Station and “Sammie” taught first grade at Walterville School. They were very happy in their new life. Curtis was transferred up to Twisp Washington with the Forest Service and Sammie continued to teach first grade. While there, two children came into their lives, a son Mitchel and a daughter Krista.
Another transfer with the forest service took the family to Lebanon, Oregon. Sammie continued teaching and furthering her education eventually obtaining her Masters degree. With yet another transfer the family found themselves in Bly, Oregon, their final home.
When Curtis finally retired he was a zoning engineer and was the head forest supervisor for the Fremont-Winema National Forest.
Sammie had climbed the ranks to become not only a teacher at Bly Elementary, but their principle too. After a difficult battle with cancer, Sammie passed away August 3, 2008.
No matter where they lived both Curtis and Sammie gave much of themselves to their communities.
Curtis was a member of the Masons and played drum and bugle core for the Shriners. He was involved in too many civic organizations to mention, including serving this nation as a member of the National Guard.
Curtis had many interests in life. As a young man he learned to play violin from his Russian-German grandfather. He played both classical and fiddles style. He also played guitar, banjo and trumpet, ran a bed and breakfast/hunting lodge in North Dakota and loved to cook. He loved classic cars and personally collected Model As’ and Volkswagen bugs.
Curtis held being of service, morals, ethics, values and doing the right thing in high regard. If someone needed help he was there.
He was a loving son, brother, father, cousin, uncle and friend to all. He will be greatly missed, especially by his family. “Until we meet again”
