Dora Brooks Phillips

Dora Brooks Phillips passed away peacefully Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the age of 93 years. She was born on a farm in Liberty Hill, Texas where the San Gabriel river flowed, a daughter of the late Jim Leonard and Jewell Brown. After graduating from Liberty Hill High School, she married Welton C. Brooks and moved to Texas City in 1946. Welton was a Texas City Fireman and Dora worked at Weingartens, raising Kenneth Welton and Linda Marie Brooks.

Dora is survived by her loving husband, Clois Phillips, her daughter and son-in- law, Linda and Steve Smith, Pearland, TX; daughter-in-law, Carol and husband, Robert Hiles, Pearland, TX; Ken Hartzell, Clayville, NY; Judy Boatwright; step-daughter and husband, JoAnn and Phil Brooks; and her four grandchildren who she loved dearly, Scott Brooks, Matthew and wife, Allison West, Mark and wife, Michelle West, Melanie and husband, Craig Branstetter; nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; step grandchildren, Andrea and husband Ward Arnold, Kevin Brooks and Ken Brooks.

Predeceased by her husband and father to her children, Welton C. Brooks; son, Kenneth Welton Brooks; step- father John J. Eiler, sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Robert Boatwright; sister, Wilma Hartzell; and brothers and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty Brown and Elmer Brown.

Dora had an amazing sense of humor with a beautiful smile for all to see. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends. Dora was a member of First Assembly of God, Texas City, TX, while raising her family and then Northside Baptist, Texas City. Our Lives so richly blessed for 93 years. An Angel went to her heavenly home.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Northside Baptist Church in Texas City.

Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
