Thomas Durand Rivers, Sr. is one of those people. Durand was born October 25, 1982. Not many have left such an impact on a community, but Durand Rivers did. He was one of the best little league coaches to ever coach in Citronelle. Not only did he coach basketball, baseball, all stars, and football, you could even catch him cheering on his baby girl at all her beauty pageants and softball games. You could see his obsession with sports most of all when his favorite team, the Alabama Crimson Tide played. You could even hear a loud "ROLL TIDE!" all the way from Citronelle to Tuscaloosa. On the same token, he loved to harass his friends who were Auburn fans almost as much as he loved cheering for Bama. However, the thing that he loved most in the world was his family. He fell in love with Britni and his whole world changed. She became the light of his life. Their two precious children were the two brightest stars in his sky. He thought his D.J. was the greatest athlete of all time, not to mention the best singer and dancer that there ever has been. His baby girl, Cammie, was, in his opinion, the most perfect person ever made. No one in all the world will ever be as beautiful as she is to him.After his family Durand's next great love was his community. Durand will always be known as the person that would give anything to anybody. He would give you the shirt off his back or take care of your children if that's what you needed him to do. He loved to hear the howl of a coon dog almost as much as he loved to yell Roll Tide. Most of all, though, Durand was a provider. He loved to see a "big truck" going down the road because he would say "there goes money!" Durand took great pride in his work as a logger and believed everybody should work as hard as him, and he wasn't afraid to tell you so. His family was blessed to be led by a physical and spiritual provider.Everyone that knows Durand knows he's always there for a good laugh, but behind all this was a man of great faith and a mighty prayer warrior. Durand believed that prayer was the answer to all of man's troubles, and he knew that Jesus was his Lord and Savior. He wasn't afraid to tell you that either.Durand will be missed by countless people. He was loved by those that called him friend, brother, uncle, son, coach, nephew, and of course, husband and daddy. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 13 years, Britni Rivers; two children, Cammie and D.J.; parents, Dottie and Thomas Rivers and Beecher McLeod; siblings, Donnie (Michelle) Rivers, Rene Beaugez, Tanya (Clifford) Rivers, and Percy Rivers; a host of nieces and nephews; and many other special relatives and friends. We love you, Durand, and can't wait to see you again, "DRIVER".A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12pm until 3pm Saturday, August 05, 2017, at Restoration Church. A celebration of life will begin at 3pm with Rev. Coma Rivers, Rev. Sammie Rivers, and Rev. Marcus A. Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
