Isaac was the second child of ten children of Robert Letcher Ground and Elizabeth Goodnight. Isaac served during the Civil War and was taken prisoner, but was able to survive, return home and married Mary Jane "Mollie" Russell December 18, 1873. Isaac and Mollie farmed and had eleven children, seven sons and four daughters, though one daughter, Garah, died in infancy. Children were:
