John died Friday, July 28, 2017 in Palm Desert, CA. He was 96. Born February 11, 1921 in Chelsea, John was the son of John Jefferson and Lily Mae Craven Phinney.

Surviving family members include his four children; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lloyd Thomas Phinney.
A graveside funeral ceremony honoring the life of John David Phinney was held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, August 3, 2017 in the Chelsea Cemetery. John’s family officiated accompanied by the United States Army Honor Guard and Masonic Rites.
