Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Margaret Maurer Vaccarella, she was a 1956 graduate of Scranton Central High School. After graduating, she worked at Gracey Farms, Scranton Dry Goods and the Globe Store. She and her husband, James Lloyd Griffith Sr., also sold life insurance for the Polish National Alliance. After his death in 1988, she moved to Deerfield Beach, Fla., where she met Roger Dionne, and they were married in 1996. They were together until his passing in 2004. She then moved back to the area in 2013 with her son, James.
Virginia loved people, her smile was infectious and she always showed class. She was always active - over the years she was a member of the Mothers Auxillary at Hickory Street, Globe Store Bowling League, Little League MOM at South Scranton Little League and sang in the choir at Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.
Surviving are a son, James Lloyd Griffith Jr. and wife, Dawne, Roaring Brook Twp.; a daughter-in-law, Donna Griffith, Sykesville, M.D.; grandchildren, James Lloyd III, Kaylee Marie, Daniel Zachary, John Lloyd Jr. and Nicole Marie; a great-grandson, John Michael; and her first husband, Frank Bohenek.
She was also preceded in death by her second husband, James Lloyd Griffith Sr., in 1988; her third husband, Roger Dionne, in 2004; and her son, John Lloyd Griffith Sr., in 2010.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Hickory Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory St., Scranton, PA 18505, with services by the Rev. Clinton Randall, pastor. Interment to follow in Abington Hills Cemetery.
A visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Corey Brian Strauch Services LLC, funeral home location, 602 Birch St., Scranton, PA 18505.
