Funeral Services Held For John Bengtson -
One of Wakefield's oldest residents, Mr. John Bengtson, died a week ago Sunday and was buried on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Bengtson was a little more than 99 years old at the time of his death. A prayer service was held for the family on Tuesday evening and the funeral service was conducted at the Evangelical Covenant Church with interment a the Wakefield cemetery, under the direction of Pastor Fred Jansson and the Bressler Funeral Home....
Mr. Bengtson was born in Sweden on February 7, 1867. He came to Wakefield area in 1887 when he was 20 years old. On March 12, 1895 he married Matilda Holst. He and wife observed their 70th wedding anniversary a little more than a year ago. Last December 12, his wife died.
Since his retirement in 1945, Mr. Bengtson has lived in Wakefield. He had been in failing health the past few months. At the time of his death, June 26, he was 99 years, 4 months and 19 days old.
He is survived by three sons, the Rev. Albert Bengtson of Miami, Florida; David of Fort Morgan, Colorado; and Paul of Wakefield; five daughters, Mrs. Albert Anderson, Mrs. Melvin Lundin, Mrs. Fred Lundin, Mrs. Fred Muller of Wakefield and Mrs. Archie Krause of Laurel, Montana; 26 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Carl Enoch and Clair Elmer preceded him in death.
