Charles Henry Cherry, Sr., 83, of Kansas City, Missouri went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

Charles was born on February 28, 1934, in Anniston, Alabama, the son of Henry and Willie Mae (Freeman) Cherry. Charles received his formal education in Anniston, Alabama School District and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He was joined in Holy Matrimony with Cleo (McCollough) Cherry in 1956. Mr. Cherry received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He faithfully served his Lord at New Haven Baptist Church in Raytown, Missouri for over 30 years in the financial and hospitality ministries. Later, he united with Friendship Baptist Church.

Charles retired from Naylor Foundry on June 26, 1999 where he was the senior molder. His work ethic was impeccable and during his tenure there, he only missed 25 days of work. Prior to that, he worked as a molder at Martin Foundry of Kansas City. He enjoyed vegetable gardening with his wife Cleo and he was an expert in growing huge tomatoes. He took pride in the meticulous care of his lawn, serving as an example to many in the neighborhood. He appreciated nature and often said how much he learned from watching animals. Cooking was a lifelong passion and he enjoyed watching others eat as much as they wanted and no one walked away without food being left on the table!

Left to cherish fond memories of his earthly life is his wife of 61 years Cleo Cherry; two sons Charles H. Cherry, Jr. (Carla) and Christopher J. Cherry; one daughter Gwendolyn Cherry; two sisters Edna Lewis and Marilyn Wylie; one brother Alfred Cherry; two grandchildren Preston David Cherry and Jennifer Denise Cherry-Gloria (Ryan); one great granddaughter Maddison Gloria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Charles faced his long illness with courage, strength, and above all a positive mental attitude. He truly understood what it meant to endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. He is greatly missed but fondly remembered. Until we meet in Heaven daddy.
