Katherine "Katie" (Smith) Kruzich or Mother Goose as some knew her in early days, passed in her 94th year early Sunday morning December 4th at her home outside of Sparta, surrounded by family, and her beloved cat Fuzzy. Katie was born and raised in Kent City, the daughter of William Alden Smith and Grace Mae Brewer. She was preceded in death by her husband George J. Kruzich originally of Caspian, Michigan in the U.P. and predeceased by her sister Vivian (Smith) Hildebrant. She is survived by her twin daughters, as well as several nieces and nephews, dear friend, her long-time care giver and former neighbor and dear friend.
Katie's joy was her floral gardens, her feline friends and wildlife who came to her backyard. She was active in aiding feral cats in the neighborhood and active in younger years with the North College Block Club in Grand Rapids. In earlier years, she was a long-term employee at St. John's Home in Grand Rapids.
The family wishes to thank her nurse and caregivers from Emmanuel Hospice for their special friendship, and support and also Julie of Reliance, her community-care advocate.
In lieu of a funeral the family wishes to have a graveside service conducted by Hessel Cheslek Funeral Home of Sparta and a celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Carol's Ferals or C-Snip Spay Neuter Clinic.
