Mrs. Dora Nell (Odom) Graham died at Singing River Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on July 31, 2017, in Moss Point, Mississippi, due to complications following a lengthy illness. She was 87.
Nell was born on March 28, 1930, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to her parents, Athal Layton and Lena Gladys Lowe. She attended Belhaven College in Jackson. She married Cecil Odom from Richton, Mississippi, in 1951. The couple moved from Richton to Pascagoula, Mississippi, where Cecil worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding until his death in 1978. Nell was a homemaker, school music teacher, private piano teacher, and Mississippi State Welfare case worker during these years. Nell and Cecil had four children together, three sons and a daughter. Nell married Van Graham from Pascagoula in 1991 and remained happily married until her death.
Nell was an accomplished soprano vocalist and served in numerous musical capacities at Calvary Baptist Church in Pascagoula most of her adult life until illness rendered her unable to do so. She was well-known across the South for her unique vocal rendition of the Christmas song “Sweet Little Jesus Boy” and made countless guest appearances during Christmas seasons across the years. Nell was an ardent supporter of the church and served gladly in any capacity required of her. Many believed she could easily have been a professional vocalist, but she chose to dedicate her life to her family and her church, a sacrifice that can only be measured by the joy and inspiration shared by those who heard her sing in church and at family gatherings.
Nell is survived by her husband, Van Graham and his children Van III, Vanessa Lee, and Beth Ann, sister, Charlotte and her children Timothy, Daniel, and Amy, three sons, James and wife Karen, Steve, John and wife Mary, daughter, Joy and husband John, and 36 grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Saturday August 5, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 P.M. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS.
