Dr. Daniel Irving Spears Jr., 70, passed away July 25, 2017. Services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Milledgeville with Rev. Jerry Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Dr. Spears was born in Milledgeville and was the son of the late Daniel Irving Sr. & Melba McCurry Spears. He was a member of the Baldwin High School Class of 1965 and attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Upon graduation, he moved to the Washington D.C. area where he served 7 years in the Air Force working as a computer scientist at the National Security Agency and the Pentagon. Dan also got his masters degree from George Washington University during this time. He finished out his military career in the U.S. Army Reserves Dental Corps and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2000. After leaving the Air Force, Dan attended the Medical College of Georgia and graduated from the School of Dentistry in 1981. Dr. Spears worked several years as a Dental Director in the Georgia State Prison system before opening his first dental practice in Milledgeville. He also had a part time practice in Hilton Head, SC for a little over 3 years during this time. Dr. Spears finished out the last 15 years of his career working as a pediatric dentist around the Southeast. For the last several years he was part owner of 7 dental offices in South Carolina.

Dan is survived by his two sons of Warner Robins, GA and of New York, NY; his sister of Winter Park, FL; his two nieces San Francisco, CA and of New Haven, CT; his dear cousins of Wrightsville, GA and of Savannah, GA and numerous other family.
