Mrs. Minnie Johnson was born in Indianola, Mississippi to the late Kemp and Rosa Dawson on October 8, 1926. She departed this life on July 26, 2017. Minnie attended high school in New Orleans, Louisiana.

On August 19, 1947, the Lord blessed her with a wonderful and devoted husband for 63 years. She was the mother of seven children. Minnie worked for the Chicago Public Schools for over 40 years as a Lunchroom Attendant. Some of her many passions were sewing, re-decorating, cooking, and gardening. In May 1993, she moved back to Gulfport and reunited with Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lee Adams Jr.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Johnson Sr, her parents, one brother Kemp Dawson Jr. and two sisters Sarah Hoskins and Emily Rodgers.

Minnie’s legacy is her family which consists of her seven children; three sons Phillip and Michael Johnson of Chicago, IL; Elbert Johnson Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four daughters, Rosemary Johnson Jordan of Gulfport, MS, Edith Johnson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Emily Harrison (Rev. Emmett Harrison Sr.) of Grand Rapids, MI; Cynthia Johnson of Chicago, IL.; one beloved and faithful sister in law, Edith Johnson of Gulfport, MS; one brother in law, Clarence James of Chicago, IL; three nephews, Kevin Dawson Sr. of Oakland, CA; Robert (Bertha) Hoskins Jr. of Gulfport, MS; and Emile Hoskins of Atlanta, GA; three nieces; Dr. Charlestine Fairley of Annapolis, MD, Claudette (Gerald) Woulard and Doris Jean Davis of Gulfport, MS; 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church with visitation one hour before.
