WELLINGTON — Marshall Peters, 88, of Wellington died Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
Mr. Peters was born April 3, 1929, in Collingsworth County to Allen J. and Lucy Rowe Peters. He married Geneva Louise Lancaster on Dec. 9, 1950, in Wellington.
Marshall attended school in the Bean Hill community and graduated from Wellington High School in 1946.
He was the co-owner and operator, with his brother David, of Southside Auto Salvage for 50 years and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
In 1960, the Greenbelt TV Translator System was formed and he served the organization as secretary for over 30 years. Marshall joined the Wellington EMS in 1972, one year after its formation, as a volunteer. He served as president for many years and was a certified EMS and EMT instructor and coordinator. He taught EMT classes in the area for over 15 years.
He served as the Collingsworth County representative to the Panhandle Emergency Medical Service System for 20 years and was a former secretary for the organization. He received the PEMSS Certificate of Merit Award for his service.
He was a charter member of the Texas Association of EMTs and a member of the Panhandle EMT Association.
Marshall had been honored by the Collingsworth County Chamber of Commerce with its Community Service Award, Man of the Year Award and Lifetime Service Award. He had served on the board of the Collingsworth County Historical Museum, the Ozark Trail Historical Marker restoration committee, the advisory board of the American Heart Association's panhandle chapter and led his county chapter for many years. He was honored with the Meritorious Service Award by the AHA.
In 1991, he was 1 of 800 nationwide volunteers recognized with the Points of Light Award by the National Association of Counties. He was a charter member of the Wellington Lions Club and had served in all offices over time.
Marshall loved to sing and was a member of the Pioneer Singers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers Jesse, Richard and David; a sister Mary Morrow.
He is survived by his wife Louise of Wellington; daughter Judy Dollar and husband Bruce of Alva, OK; son Mike Peters and wife Debbie of Milton, FL; 3 grandchildren Sheila Glover and Gary, Denise Keiley and Gus and Billy Dollar and Dusti;8 great grandchildren Michael Glover, Brett and Ryan Waid, Sophia Keiley, Raquel, Brayson, Barrett and Riggen Dollar; a great-great granddaughter Sawyer Waid; and numerous nieces and nephews.
