Mr. Kenneth Prince Bates, age 76, of Buchanan passed away Sunday, July 31, 2017.

Mr. Bates was born in Buchanan, Georgia, on August 7, 1940. He was the son of the late Prince Albert Bates and the late Delores Kirk Daniell. Mr. Bates was retired from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jackie Daniell Bishop.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Worthy Bates of Buchanan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Allen King of Buchanan, and Donna and Mike Denton of Piedmont, AL; one son, Keith Bates of Newnan; two step-daughters, Kim Hammond of Buchanan, and Kada and her husband Robin Morris of Tallapoosa; eight grandchildren, Brittney, Abigail, Amanda, Brianne, Brandi, Hillary, Thad and Blythe; five great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. from Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Brannon officiating.

Interment will follow in Buchanan City Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Lenny Dalton, Randy Patterson, Randy Hagan, Randy Poole, Darrell Locklear and Don Damron.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Homer Bishop and Kirk Sanders.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
