W. “Mahlon” Burson, Jr., age 90, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 31, 2017.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 70 years, two sons, daughter and their families, brother & sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mahlon was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Alice Mitchell, Helen Phillips, Amy Rose Briscoe, and Callie Whitley.

Mahlon was born in Monroe, Georgia, on November 22, 1926, to William Mahlon Burson, Sr. and Bessie India Jackson Burson. He was a 1942 graduate of Walker Park High School where he played basketball. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and was the second telephone installer that come into Lawrenceville retiring from Southern Bell after 30 years of service. He owned and operated Burson Used Cars and Burson Tire Co. for 33 years. He was instrumental in starting Dixie Youth Baseball in 1959 for the Lawrenceville area. Mahlon was a member at Lawrenceville First Baptist Church, served as a Lawrenceville Volunteer Fireman, and served the City of Lawrenceville for 26 years as a City Councilman. Mahlon’s commitment and dedication to the City of Lawrenceville will never be forgotten. He loved to recycle, travel, and loved being with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mahlon will be remembered for his service to his community, comical stories about what he would get into and how he enjoyed all of the friends he made during his lifetime.

The Service Honoring the Life of Mahlon Burson will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 1st, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, August 2nd, after noontime at the funeral home. Members of the Lawrenceville City Council and Employees of the City of Lawrenceville (Former and Current) are asked to serve as Honorary Escort for the service.
