Howard “Howie” “Howst” C. Jochimsen, 65, of Kiel, died unexpectedly, but peacefully in his favorite chair on his deck at his campground, where he spent his summers for the past 13 years, on Saturday morning, July 29, 2017, his 45th wedding anniversary.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1951, son of the late Elroy “Chappy” Jochimsen and Rita (Schnur) Maxson.

Howie attended Holy Rosary and New Holstein High School.

Howie was also an altar boy at Holy Rosary Church in New Holstein.

On July 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to Linda Ninmer at St. Peters UCC in Kiel.

Howie worked as a maintenance supervisor at Worthington Industries until retiring in 2010. He was well liked by everyone and prided himself on treating all employees with much respect.

Howie looked forward to the nice weather so he could spend time at the cottage in Lakewood, take trips to Wisconsin Dells, birdwatch, and being the “Mayor” of the campground. He could be found sitting around the campfire sharing stories, and making his famous Bloody Marys for his camping family.

Howie enjoyed spending all of his free time with his grandkids, playing sheepshead with his family, or tending to his lawn that he took great pride in. He was a family man, instilling his values in them, always making sure everyone was together for the holidays. Howie loved his getaways with Linda, and was patiently waiting for her to retire to do more traveling with her.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years Linda of Kiel; his daughter Carrie (Karstaedt) and Tyler Guell of Kiel; daughter-in-law Jennifer (Jochimsen) and Ryan Pafford of Kiel; his grandchildren, Caitlyn and Cameron Karstaedt, Jaxon Guell, Dade Krings, Kyla and Kaiden Jochimsen all of Kiel. He is further survived by his siblings, Joanie (John) Hobbs of Colorado, Mary (Gordy) Manderscheid of New Holstein, Kenny (Jenny) Jochimsen of Washington; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Donna (Dale) Wollersheim, Kiel, Gary (Lana) Ninmer, Kiel, Gwen Ninmer, Kiel, Daniel (Kelly) Ninmer, Elkhart Lake, mother-in-law Gertrude Ninmer of Kiel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Keith Jochimsen; son-in-law David Karstaedt; brother John “Jocko” Jochimsen; father-in-law Orville Ninmer; and brothers-in-law, Michael and David Ninmer.

The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 3 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St.,) with Mike Mathes officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends from 3 p.m. until time of service.

Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home will be assisting the family with services.

Howie’s family would like to thank the Stockbridge First Responders, Gold Cross Ambulance and the First Responders at the campground that assisted the family.

As Howie would say, “It is what it is.”
