NORFOLK - Mildred Marlene McCubbins, 87, passed away Oct. 16, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her family. She had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a nurse. She also served as a Navy flight nurse from 1946 until 1949 in various countries in the Pacific.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, retired Lt. Cmdr. Marvin B. McCubbins; her daughter, Helen Ward and husband Rob of Norfolk; her sons, Ronald McCubbins and wife Linda of Norfolk, Gerald McCubbins and wife Judi of Salem, Ore., and Robert McCubbins and wife Debby of High Point, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Robert McCubbins Jr., Jennifer McCubbins, Allison McCubbins, Lisa Johnson, Joseph McCubbins, Mary Ellen Ward, Carter Eads, Aaron Owens and Stephanie Gale.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by Father Venancio R. Balarote Jr. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7800 Halprin Drive, Norfolk, VA 23518.
