On stone with Mary E. Nestelroad

John Samuel Nestelroad, who was born in Prarie City, Ill., April 10th 1860 departed this
life July 20, 1909, while at his work near town. His death was caused by heart failure, also from
the death of his sister, Mrs. Effie Scovell, whom he so dearly loved and so recently promised to
meet in the Master's Kingdom when done with earth.

In early youth Mr. Nestelroad was converted, joined the Christian Church and lived
faithful to his choice so long as he lived near to attend the services of his church.

In 1883, Sept. 16th, Mr. Nestelroad was united in marriage to Miss Eva York in Adams
Co Iowa. Thirteen children came to bless their union. Of these four have died, eight are living
with theic [sic] mother and one is married, Mrs. Louisa Simons of Norwich.

He was a hospitable friend, a kind loving father and an affectionate husband and
frequently took his children into his affections, speaking to them of their eternal welfare and of
God and Heaven. He was an industrious man, never in worry as one having no hope, but
encouraged every good purpose.

His mother died when he was but a youth six years old but his father and three sisters are
left to mourn his loss.

Mr. Nestelroad came from Cromwell Iowa to Garden Plain with his family in the
summer of 1897, where they resided ever since. Mr. Nestelroad passed to the eternal beyond
after having lived 49 years, 2 months and 19 days.

The funeral servicees were held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the Methodist
Church, conducted dy [sic] B. F. Hill and members of the M. W. A. Lodge.

Interment was made in the Garden Plain cemetery.
