He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Boardwine Conner; his parents, Cecil and Lessie Branch; and his adopted parents, Ed and Molly Conner. After Maggie’s death in 1999, he lived alone until May of this year.
Richard was a born again Christian since his teenage years. He served his country in WWII, serving in the Air Force as a military policeman. He was a dedicated Boy Scout Leader of Troop 114 of the High Point Community for approximately twenty five years. He retired from Smith Kline Beecham after thirty five years.
He is survived by his sons, Gene Allen Conner and wife Lorene, and Luther Edward “Eddie” Conner and wife Gail; grandchildren, Lora Conner Fuller (Mike), Richard “Ricky” Conner (Racheal), Christina Conner Musick (Josh); three special foster grandchildren, Elijah Dye, Isaac Dye and Caden O’Quin; eleven great grandchildren, Blake Widner, Maggie Fuller, Nikki Conner, Minnie Conner, Keira Conner, Abigail Musick, Hannah Musick, Lucas Musick, Jackson Musick, Avery Musick and Gracyn Musick; two great-great grandchildren, Scarlett Slaughter and Alexander Slaughter; sister, Clifton “Kitty” Rush; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Jordan; longtime friends, Ellis Fitzgerald and Betty M. Murray; several nieces and nephews; and special cat, Fuzz II.
A military graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2017 at Mountain View Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the DAV Chapter 40 Honor Guard.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to NHC for the great care given to Richard in his final days.
