John Allen Riley, 76, died Thursday, December 8, 2005. He was the husband of Gladys (Myers) Riley. Born March 14, 1929, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late John L. and Ruth E. (Lippy) Riley. Mr. Riley graduated from Manchester High School in 1946. He retired from Black & Decker in Hampstead, Md., and from the Town of Hampstead, Md. Formerly he held positions as an electronics technician at Bendix Radio in Baltimore, Md.; as town manager of Manchester, Md.; as a wastewater treatment supervisor at Black & Decker in Hampstead, Md.; and as town manager of Hampstead, Md. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1950 to 1954. Mr. Riley was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Manchester, Md., and the Masonic Lodge 175 of Manchester, Md. He was active in the community, serving as scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts and was a member of the town and church councils, to name a few. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Brenda Riley of Palmyra and Douglas and Kimberly Riley of New Oxford; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Bishop of Hanover; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Kathryn Riley of Manchester, Md.; grandchildren, Beth, Erica and Alex Riley; step grandchildren, Nathan McKeldin and Jerry Bishop; and nieces and nephews.
