Damon Ford Singleton, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2010 in Seattle of natural causes. Born in Heaters, WV on Feb. 16, 1918 to Asa and Emma Singleton, Damon was the second oldest of 5 sons. Graduating from Sutton High School in 1938, Damon worked for his father on the family farm until enlisting in the Navy in 1940.

He served throughout WWII, earning a Purple Heart, among many other commendations, and the Korean War as a gunner's mate. He was a true American hero. Upon retiring from the Navy as a Chief Gunner's Mate after 21 years of service in 1961, Damon continued in civil service for the next 18 years as a letter carrier. When his time with the Post Office was finished, Damon filled his days working in his extensive gardens, tinkering around his home, and staying up-to-date on the stock market.

Damon is survived by his wife of 62 yrs, Edith; children include sons, Greg (Val) and Darrell Jack (Sandie), and daughter Gail Dehnert. Beloved grandchildren include Anthony (Jessica), Kirsten, Teresa, and Jana. His only surviving sibling is Charles Singleton of Dunn, NC.

Damon was a quiet soul, loved and respected by many. He was proud of his service to country and showed patriotism and caring for family throughout his life. He cherished his connection with his home state, West Virginia.

Memorial services will be held by Bonney-Watson at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 with burial at Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in SeaTac.
