Michael Thomas Mattox, age 75 of Adrian passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. He was born on October 30, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio to Lewis H. and Lois I. (Wilson) Mattox. Michael attended Woodward High School in Toledo and graduated with the Class of 1961. On February 25, 1967, Michael married the former Gloria Galnares at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian, Michigan. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Michael worked as a welder for Chrysler Jeep Plant in Toledo for 35 years, retiring in 1997. He faithfully attended St. Mary of Good Counsel Parish in Adrian. He was a nature enthusiast, often times walking through the woods admiring the beauty and simplicity of nature and animals of all kinds. Michael enjoyed traveling to various places and taking in a good movie with his wife, Gloria. He was often seen reminiscing with his friends at McDonald’s enjoying his favorite soda “Diet Coke” or walking the Adrian Mall for exercise. Michael’s greatest treasures were the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoying good music and dancing.
Surviving is his wife, Gloria Mattox of Adrian; three daughters, Michelle Mattox of Adrian, Monica (Finn) Hassing of Denmark and Melinda “Mindy” Mattox of Adrian; one brother, Walter (Marge) Mattox of Toledo; one sister, Ann Mathers of Toledo; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one aunt, Maude Drago of Toledo and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, James, Phillip, Lewis Robert, Leroy and Marquis Mattox and Beverly and Rita in infancy.
The Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at St. Mary of Good Counsel Parish, Adrian with Fr. Tom Murphy and Fr. Michael Newman presiding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian, where there will be a Vigil Prayer Service held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m., prior to the Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary of Good Counsel Parish, Adrian.
