He was born on September 2, 1934 in Athens County, Ohio and attended Nelsonville High School.
He earned his certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship in the trade of Painting and Decorating in 1954. After serving as an apprentice painter with Mollenauer Painting, he along with his brother Bob started Allen Brothers Painting from which he retired after 35 years. He was known to lend a helping hand or guidance if there was a painting job to be completed.
Austin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wintering in Punta Gorda, Florida and helping his wife Shirley. He also enjoyed visiting and was involved with the Murray City Railroad Depot Improvement.
Austin is survived by his daughters, Jeri (Don) Hall of Johnstown and Shawna Young of Centerburg; daughter-in-law, CeAnn Allen-Linstedt (Randy) of Centerburg; grandchildren, Chris (Megan) Hall of Palm City, Florida, Mike (Tina) Barber of Centerburg, Austin (Courtney) Allen of Centerburg and Aubrie Allen of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Preston and Blake Barber of Centerburg and Ava, Kensey and Dean Hall of Palm City, Florida; brothers, George (Penny) Pancake of Bloomingville, Ohio and James (Marya) Pancake of Cardington; many nieces and nephews.
Austin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley (Robinson) Allen, his son Charles “Chuck” Allen, a brother Robert Allen, mother and father Forest and James Pancake.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 4 – 8 pm at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 @ 61, Sunbury, OH. Funeral services celebrating Austin’s life will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Centerburg Church of Christ, 3830 Columbus Rd., Centerburg, OH with Pastor Daryn Dawes officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
