partial obituary:
Earl C. North, 86, of Usquepaugh Road, West Kingston formerly of North Kingstown, died yesterday at the Roberts Health Center, North Kingstown. He was the husband of the late Bertha I. (Tingley) North.
Born in Newport, he lived most his life in North Kingstown, the son of the late Carl and Otilia (Sorensen) North. He was a retired truck driver for the former New England Transportation Co., Pawtucket and was last employed as a night watchman at Providence Gas Co., Exeter, retiring in 1986.
He was a former member of the Coast Guard, which he left to join the First Class of the R.I. State Police for a short time. He was a life member of South Kingstown Lodge 1899 B.P.O.E., Washington Lodge #5, F.&A.M., North Kingstown, and a life member of the Wickford Club.
He is survived by two sons, a daughter, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Barbara A. Blair.
