Arlene Cease 1936-1995

Arlene Cease, 58, died as the result of injuries sustained in a two car accident Thursday evening near Glyndon, Minnesota.
The accident occurred at about 9:24 p.m. at the junction of Highway 9 and Clay County Road 26. Cease was transported to Meritcare Hospital in Fargo where she died.
Lowell Frederick Moen, 60 of Gary, Minnesota was the driver of the second vehicle. He died at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo. His 59 year old wife, Betty Jean, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to Minnesota State Patrol spokesman based in Detroit Lakes, the "intersection" accident remains under investigation and no further details are being made public.
Cease will long be remembered for her tireless contributions to charitable activities.
For the past several years, she had been active in the Clearwater County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and was presently serving as the organization's president. She assisted with the fundraising projects, Love Lights a Tree and Longest Day of Golf.
Cease also assisted in coordinating local blood drives for United Blood Services.
Erver the optomistic, Cease helped organize and co-chair the KIDS (Keep Improving District Schools) II Committee to raise funds to build an auditorium.
She was instrumental in organizing the Silent Auction conducted in April as part of KIDS II activities.
Cease was a member of several boards including: chairperson of the Clearwater County Nursing Service; past chairperson of the Bagley Economic Developement Corporation; secretary of the Region II Arts Council; and treasurer of Wilbur Deere ( a non-profit production company of educational material for Public Broadcasting System).
Art in the Park was another event which she helped plan and organize.
Sge was active in the Bagley Tuesday Study Club and the Bagley Community Theatre, having appeared in many plays. She was selected as Clearwater County Lady of the Year a few years ago.
Most recently, she was one of three judges at the Annual High School Art Show.
In addition to her community involvement, Cease was also active in church activities. A member of Faith Lutheran Church, she served on the church council and was congregational president.
Other Church activities include: choir, Naomi Circle, Alter Guild and playing piano for Sunday School. Cease was also a past president of WELCA.
She and her husband, Wayne, had five children: Kevin; triplets Kurt, Kory and Kent; and a daughter, Kelly.

Arlene Bernice Cease, 58, of bagley, died Thursday, June8, 1995, at meritcare Hospital in Fargo.
She was born December 12, 1936, on the family farm near Oklee, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Halvorson) Ellickson. She was raised and educated in oklee, and was active in the 4-H program and was the Red LakeCounty Health Queen for two years. She graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead with an Elementary Education major in 1958. She taught elementary school in Cloquet for a year. She married Wayne Cease on July 25, 1959, in Oklee. They lived in Bagley where she taught school for a year and later substitute taught. She spent the rest of her life making the lives of her family, friends and community better.
She was a very active member of faith Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, as congregational president, choir member, the Naomi Circle, past rpesident of WELCA, Alter Guild, the serving committee. She also played piano for opening music excercises in Sunday School for 25 years, and was on the committee that redesigned the remodeled church kitchen.
She was a member of the bagley Tuesday Study Club, and the Bagley Community Theatre and was in many plays. She was a past Clearwater County Lady of the Year. She was also in the Blandin Leadership Program. She currently served on the boards of the Clearwater County Nursing Service as chairperson, past chairperson of the Bagley Economic Developement Corperation, secretary of the Region II Art Council, and treasurer of Wilbur Deere ( a non-profit production company of educational material to be shown on PBS), chairperson of the third year of the local unit of the American Cancer Society and was active in many of their fund raising project, such as "LOveLights a Tree" and "LOngest Day of Golf." She was a pat president of the Ladies Golf Association and helped with many projects. She has coordinated the local Blood Drive for United Blood Services for many years. She helped teach English to the first refugee family in Bagley. She also helped start the pilot program for the Day Activity Center in Bagley and was one of the first teachers. Arlene will be remembered most for her many acts of kindness and the love she had for everyone.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Cease of Bagley; five children, Kevin (Ann) Cease of Bemidji, Kent (Lori) Cease of Park Rapids, Kurt (Jill) Cease of Anchorage, Alaska, Kory (Betsy) Cease of St. Paul, and Kelly (Mark) Cease Bowman of Solway; a foster daughter, Sissy (Frank) Vargas of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren; two sisters, Gloria (David) Melby of St. Cloud and Linda (Winton) Mickelson of Oklee; father in law, Ed Cease of Bagley; aunt, Muriel Halvorson of Clearbrook; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; abrother, Roger Ellickson, and her mother in law, Florence Cease.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 13 at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley with the Revs. Dennis Brovold, Mardy Shermerhorn and Milan Davig officiating. Interment was at the Bagley City Cemetery with arrangements by the Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley.
The family prefers memorials made to the K.I.D.S. II Bagley High School Auditorium Fund. K.I.D.S. II, Box 333, Bagley, Minnesota 56621. This was her favorite project of which she was chairwoman.
