James L. Hance, 48, of Clay City, died November 19,1989 at his home.

Mr. Hance was born October 11, 1941 in Clay City, the son of Harry and Genelle Hance. He married Monica Nickells July 5, 1961 in Olney and she survives.

He was a self-employed painter, a member of Clay City Baptist church and a member of the Clay City Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Jr. and Shawn Hance; a brother, Roger Hance; two sisters, Barbara Tolliver and Norma Franklin; his mother and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Funeral services were held at Hosselton, Bookhout and Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City with burial in the Clay City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Clay City Baptist Church building fund.
