James H. Cade, the son of St.Clair and Elba Cade, a resident of Taylor County, Iowa enlisted Aug. 9, 1862 into Co F 29th Iowa Infantry. He mustered Nov. 12, 1862 at Camp Dodge, Council Bluffs, Iowa. James mustered out Aug. 10, 1865 in New Orleans, Louisiana. James and his wife Sarah were living in Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado at the time of the 1920 census.

Elbert B Cade, age 18 and Benjamin F Cade age 19, his brothers, same residence and nativity, enlisted the same day into the same company.

Elbert died of disease Apr 16 1865, Little Rock, Arkansas and is buried in Little Rock National Cemetery. Benjamin survived the war, died 1901, and is buried in Dallas Center Cemetery, Taylor County,Iowa.
