Elizabeth Watkins Somersall was the daughter of John William Somersall and his wife Mary Morgan. Her father was a clockmaker and traveled considerably around Virginia with his family to practice his trade. It was while he was located in Shenandoah County, Virginia that Elizabeth met and married Samuel Hiram Evans. After Samuel's death in 1835, Elizabeth lived with family members in Alexandria, Virginia, Clarke County, Virginia, and in Floyd County, Virginia, until moving out to Texas to be near her children that lived there until her death in 1864. Excerpts of her diary reveal a lot about her family and movements about the United States.
