Mary Julia McLean Sinclair was the wife of the Rev. John Campbell Sinclair. They were married at Scalastil House, on the island of Mull, Argyllshire, in 1822. She was the daughter of John and Margaret McLean. She was an orphan, and lived at Scalastil House with her cousins on her father's side. Sir Archibald McLean and Sir Hector McLean, major-generals in the British army, were her cousins.

She and her husband were the parents of ten children:
