Obituary for Janice M. Goode

Janice M. Goode’s battle with cancer ended on July 26, 2017.
Services for Janice, 74 of Lacona, will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 at the Lacona United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Cochran Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, July 28 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Memorials may be directed to Lacona United Methodist Church, Lacona Fire and Rescue, Southeast Warren Scholarship Foundation, or Kavanaugh House.

Janice Margaret Spear was born September 19, 1942 to Cyril Duane and Mable Elizabeth (Nutting) Spear in rural Milo, Iowa. She was raised on the farm where she learned the hardworking values of her parents and family. Janice attended school in Liberty Center, graduating from the first class of Southeast Warren High School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in 1964. Janice and Robert Loraine Goode were married on Oct 3, 1964 at Green Plain United Methodist Church and had 2 children: Laura Elizabeth and Timothy Robert.

Janice was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She partnered with Bob in the family Simmental cattle farm and auction businesses and continued farming along with her children after Bob’s passing.

Her community involvement included serving as a Southeast Warren School Board member and President, 4-H leader, Southeast Warren Scholarship Foundation member and very active member of the Lacona United Methodist Church.

Janice’s career was focused on public service as the Lacona Town Clerk and providing constituent services for Congressman Jim Ross Lightfoot and Senator Charles Grassley. Janice retired from the federal government at the end of 2015 with more than 30 years of service.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; sister Edna Lester; and husband Bob. She will be deeply missed by her children: Laura Tobey (Mike) of Clive and Tim Goode (Corinne) of Des Moines; 3 grandsons: Brian and Rob Goode and Andrew Tobey; siblings: Marvin Spear, Edith Henry (Merrill), brother-in-laws: Larry Lester and Lisle Goode, sister-in-laws: Sue Ellen Ballard and Linda Goode and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
