Mrs. Ida Callahan, 83, died at 3 p.m. Friday at the home of her sister and brother in law, Mr. & Mrs. Milo Eldert in Elba township here she had been living since breaking up her home in Yates City about two years ago. She had long been ill.

A member of two prominent pioneer families of Knox county, Ida May sherman was born to JoJhn W. and ann M. (Bradford) Sherman, Oct. 31 1861, in Persifer township. Much of her early life was spent on her parents' farm in Elba township. It was on this farm where her death occured. For a number of years she was a successful teacher in rural schools of Knox county. She was married in January 1 1894, to WilliamJ. Callahan who preceded her in death on February 16 1929.

The couple lived on their farm in Elba township until advansing years and the ill health of Mr. Callahan compelled them to retire from the arduous duties of farm life. The bought property and moved to Yates city.

Mrs. Callahan had a keen mind and kept herself informed on affairs in the world about her. She identifield herself with forward looking movements in her community. She served on the board of trustees of the Yates city Cemetery association and was it's treasurer for a term, of years. she had been an active member of the Yates city woman's club almost since it's organization. she attended the Presbyterian church as long as her health permitted.

Surviving Mrs. Callahan are two sisters, Mrs. Clara Baird of Oklahoma city, Okla and Mrs. Ethel Eldert of elba, and two brotheers charles a Sherman of elba and John A Sherman of Yates city. A brother William Sherman preceded her in death.

Funeeal services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Patterson Funeral home in Elmwood. the Rev charles Vandettumof elmwood officiated. entombment was in Yates city mausoleum.
