Gladys Marie Gifford Horton was the daughter of Frank Gifford and Elizabeth Barbara (Lezetta - Lizzie) Trager. Her parents were living in Keldron at the time of her birth, but she was born in Custer, Corson Co., South Dakota. She grew up on her parent's farm in Keldron, and in 1934 graduated from Great Plains Lutheran High School in Watertown, Codington Co., South Dakota. After graduation from high school, Gladys worked as a Secretary at the County Court House in Mobridge, Walworth Co., South Dakota where a co-worker introduced her to Freddie Horton. Gladys and William Frederick "Freddie" Horton were married on August 01, 1936, in Ipswich, Edmunds Co., South Dakota. The couple migrated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1940 and later settled in Anaheim, Orange Co., California where Gladys was a Supervisor at Hunt's Foods Canning Division, Fullerton, California. Gladys and Fred Horton are the parents of three children: Gerald Duane "Jerry" Horton (Carol) of Placentia, California; Wallace Wayne "Wally" Horton (Joan) of Fairfax, Virginia, and Nona Charlayne Horton Mooers (Gordy) of Bremerton, Washington. Gladys has five Grandchildren and ten Great-Grandchildren. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Anaheim, California.
