Beatrice (Launder) Matthews
Beatrice L. "Bee" Matthews passed away at the age of 101 August 8th at the Pope John Paul Care Center in Danbury where she had been a resident for the past 8 years. She was predeceased by her husband James Matthews and survived by her nephews Arthur Launder of San Francisco, California, and Dr. William J. Launder of Gibson Island, Maryland.

Bee was a long time resident of Sherman, where she was much loved and respected for her participation and leadership in a variety of community organizations and affairs. For many years she was an acive assistant to her husband, Jim, when he headed up the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. She was a co-founder of the very popular annual Sherman Art Show where she worked diligently to make it a memorable summer event. But her first love was always her parish, Holy Trinity, where she served as Trustee for 20 years. Bee was a leader of the volunteer effort supporting Holy Trinity's contribution to the well being of the community, and for many years helped head up the Christmas Bazaar. In 2006 in recognition of her good works at Holy Trinity, Bee was the recipient of the Saint Augustine Medal of Service bestowed on her by Bishop Lori of the Dioceses of Bridgeport.
Bee Matthews was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be sorely missed by her wide circle of friends.
A memorial mass at Holy Trinity Parish in Sherman will said on Saturday, August 18th, at 11 AM followed by burial in North Cemetery. There will be a reception after the burial back at Holy Trinity Parish.
In Bee's honor memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Community of God of Tenderness, 79 Golden Hill Rd, Danbury, Ct 06811; Holy Trinity Parish, 15 Route 37 Center, Sherman, Ct 06784; or Sol Amor Hospice at 4 Oxford Rd., Suite E4, Milford, CT.
