NILES - Niles Michigan resident Jeanne McGough Clark, 68, passed away Monday, July 17 in Halifax, Nova Scotia doing what she loved, exploring the world. Jeanne was born in Chicago November 15, 1948 to Jess and Jim McGough. After graduating from St Xavier College with degrees in English and German, she received her MA Teaching English as a Second Language, reflecting her lifelong fascination with language. After teaching at the community college part time she took the Chicago Police Department entrance exam and became part of the court-ordered first class of police officers of both sexes. She rocketed up the ranks, becoming the first female sargeant, first female lieutenant, first female district commander and finally, the first female Deputy Superintendent.

Jeanne and her husband Patrick, a CPD captain, treasured the hours spent at Clarkhaven, their getaway in Niles Michigan. Once they retired they became involved at the Forever Learning Institute in South Bend and Bowlers Country Club. After Patrick's death, Jeanne became more active in 5W - Women Welcome Women Worldwide, taking the opportunity to meet and live with women around the world. 5W took her to Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Germany, England, Finland and Ireland. She was on the Queen Mary 2 headed to England when she became ill with ARDS. The ship diverted to Halifax and the QEII hospital where they heroically tried to save her.

She was the dear sister of Mary (Bob) Schultze, James W. McGough, Patricia (Pat) Rung, Eileen Decker (deceased), Rose Weissmueller, And Joni (Denny) Sheehan. She was the loving aunt to 17 nieces and nephews and caring grandmother to stepdaughter Bridget Castrejon and her daughters Sophia and Eva. A memorial will be held in Chicago. Her Michiana friends will meet to celebrate her life soon.
