Mark and I graduated from *Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) in 1988. We had some really good times. Like everyone else, I knew him simply as "Harris". Harris was a dedicated and loyal friend. Out of all of the people who I've met in my lifetime he was one of the nicest. He had an awesome sense of humor and accepted people for who they were and never prejudged anyone. It was really cool hanging around with him. A very laid back and likeable guy. He really cared for his family and friends. In early 1998 Harris ate what turned out to be contaminated shell fish. By the following summer he had gone into liver failure. Who would ever have thought that eating lobster could make a person deathly ill. By the fall of that year Harris underwent a liver transplant. The transplant was successful. He made an excellent recovery and was feeling a lot better. His body accepted the new liver. Harris had one of the best attitudes I've ever seen. Unfortunately by 2004 Mark's body had begun to reject his new liver. At the age of thirty-eight Harris lost his battle with liver disease. He died at home with his family at his side. I thought he would ultimately beat this. He fought it to the end. The higher power above had other plans for Mark.

*Mark was the son of Neil J. and Lillian(McIsaac)Anderson. He had two siblings; Beth and Ross. Harris also left his girlfriend,Sue(Gasper)Doherty. Mark was raised in Chelmsford. He was a 1984 graduate of Chelmsford High School. He went on to become an auditor at Deutsche Financial. My friend was a devout Catholic, having been a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Chelmsford. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Nabnaset Country Club in Westford,Mass. Harris is remembered as an athlete and food critic. He enjoyed spending time at Rockingham Park in Salem,New Hampshire. and Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.

*I can't believe its been twelve years since Mark passed on. Harris and I managed to stay in touch after graduation. I had looked forward to many more years of keeping in touch with him. Even more so,seeing him defeat liver disease. In his short life Harris accomplished an awful lot. He never gave up or complained even when things got really tough. The way in which he handled his illness has given me strength to deal with my problems. It's a comfort knowing that my friend is finally at peace. I'll always be grateful that him and I were good friends.

*Six months after Harris passed on his mother died. His father died in September 2011.

*Now the University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth.
