John Vern Hogue was born September 19, 1922 to George and Bertha (Sparks) Hogue in Plano, Iowa. He passed away, Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Corydon Nursing home and Rehab Center in Corydon, Iowa at the age of 92 years.

Vern lived most of his life in Chariton, Iowa. He worked at Johnson Machine Works for forty-six years as a welder. Vern was united in marriage with Aileen Vera Perkins. To this union two children were born, William (Billy) John Hogue and a daughter, Caroline Kay who died in infancy. In the 1940’s, Vern served as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp in Corydon, Iowa.

December 6, 1973, Vern then married May Ida Nickel-Goben. They moved to Corydon, Iowa in 1992 to be closer to their daughter, Louise Moore. Vern moved into the Corydon Nursing Home and Rehab Center in June 2012. His wife, May moved with him.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bertha Hogue; his daughter, Caroline Kay; his wife, Aileen Hogue; his brother, Homer and his wife, Marguerite Hogue; and his sister, Reva DeMichelis.

He is survived by his wife, May Hogue of Corydon, Iowa; his (step)daughter, Louise Moore of Corydon, Iowa; his son, William (Billy) John Hogue; four grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
