(1944 - 2017)
Wayne Eugene Bell 73, passed away quietly on July 22, 2017 at a Hospice facility. Wayne was one of the great running backs to walk the halls of Robert E. Lee High School. His accolades are numerous, including M.V. Back in the district, averaging 5 yards a carry. He played Second Team All-State and was a Parade All American. Wayne was elected Mr. Robert E. Lee, starred in the High School All Star Game and played on the All-Century Team. Additionally, he was M.V.P. in the High School Oil Bowl Game (Texas vs. Oklahoma). He continued his football prowess at the University of Oklahoma until multiple knee surgeries cut his career short. Determined to be a coach, he continued his college pursuits and earned a degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. Afterwards he started his coaching career ranging from Midland to Copperas Cove, TX; Spring Branch I.S.D., Houston I.S.D., La Porte I.S.D. and the joy of his life, a stint at Baytown Robert E. Lee High School. There were numerous others before he retired to enjoy time boating and of course, football season! Wayne chose direct cremation with no service or memorial. Arrangements under the direction of Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, Baytown, TX.
