FREDONIA: Janice M. Fields, 78, of Straight Road, Fredonia, passed away, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Dunkirk, on May 12, 1939, the daughter of the late Edward and Marie (Centner) Deering.
She was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1957, was previously a Licensed Cosmetologist and received her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Jamestown Business College. Mrs. Fields worked in many capacities throughout her life, most recently as the Fredonia Luncheon Site Coordinator for Chautauqua County Office of the Aging.
She earned the nickname “Hot Rod Jan” and continued that theme with her pride & joy: a 1989 Chevy standard shift stepside truck she called “Bess.” Mrs. Fields loved feeding and watching the hummingbirds, doing cryptograms, creating and sending cards to her friends and family, and gazing at her daughter’s horses next door. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was famous for the pizza and fried dough parties she would host.
Survivors include two daughters, Joelle (Peter) Woodward, of Fredonia; Justine (Jason) Delcamp, of Dewittville; and a brother, Donald (Linda) Deering, of Gilbert, SC. Also survived are 4 grandchildren: Alicia Valentine, Michaella Kuschel, Alexis Delcamp & Alanna Delcamp. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Joseph J. Fields, whom she married Oct. 23, 1965 in St. John’s United Church of Christ, Dunkirk and who died Sept. 6, 1984, by 2 sons, Joseph E. Fields, who died Sept. 22, 1987, Jeremy C. Fields, who died Feb. 24, 2011 and a granddaughter Rachael Delcamp, who died Nov. 6, 2004.
Services are private and interment will be at the convenience of the family in Sheridan Center Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials may be made either to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750 or to Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
