The son of William Henry & Susannah (Silks) Liddick, in 1860 he was a laborer presumably living in Perry County, Pennsylvania, although he is not found in that census. He stood 5' 6" tall and had brown hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted (overstating his age by two years), mustered into federal service at Carlisle February 24, 1864, as a private with Co. C, 77th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company December 6, 1865, at Victoria, Texas. His brother George enlisted with him, and their father joined them a year later.

He married Sarah J. Fox ca. 1871 and fathered Nora E. (b. 06/12/71 - married Hiram Shoeman), Sadie M. (b. @1873), Joseph Henry (b. 11/21/76), Curtis A. (b. @1879), and Charles B. (b. 07/09/85). A mason during his post-war years, the cause of his death is listed as "arteriosclerosis & chronic nephritis."
