Hiram Paul Whittington, age 76, passed from this world and went to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 15, 2017. He was born on December 30, 1940 to Raiford Whittington and Trudie Arnold Whittington. He was a lifelong resident of the Busy Corner community in Amite County. After high school, he chose to join the U.S. Army where he served his country from 1963-1969 during the Vietnam War. During his service, he was stationed overseas in Germany and later at the 8th Field Hospital in NhaTrang, Vietnam. In 1966 he ranked as a Sergeant (E-5).In 1970, he married and started a family. He was a faithful Christian husband and father who always cared and provided well for his wife and two children. He was a dedicated employee at Georgia-Pacific Gloster Plywood for 36 years. In the 1980s, he used his musical talents as a bass guitar player and performing with the southern gospel quartet group, Mt. Pleasant Boys, sharing love and the gospel message of Jesus Christ through song.He served as a deacon and played bass guitar during Sunday services at his home church, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, for many years. He enjoyed giving to and serving others. He also enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, woodworking, playing cards, watching old Westerns, sharing his love of music and spending time with his family. Most importantly, he loved the Lord and spending time in His Word. He truly understood the gift of grace freely given through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 46 years, Minnette Freeman Whittington; his beloved son, Ted Wilburn Whittington and wife Amanda; six wonderful grandchildren, Shelby Lynn Adams, Adelynn Grace Whittington, Rebecca Lynn Neese, Caleb Grant Whittington, Amelia Rose Whittington and Joshua Whittington; one new great grandchild; his loving and caring sisters, Genny Wilkinson and husband Don and Lila Rae Allgood and husband Tom; one niece and four nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Raiford Whittington; his mother Trudie Arnold Whittington; his beloved daughter, Trudy Lynn Whittington Glidden; and his brother, R.J. Whittington.All services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Gloster on Saturday, July 22, 2017, with visitation from 1:00 P.M. until time of funeral services at 3:00 P.M. at the Church. Rev. Blain Stafford and Rev. Ellis Hollingsworth will officiate. Interment will follow at the old Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.Pallbearers are Caleb Whittington, David Smith, Robert Smith, Bryan Smith, Prentice Thomas, Casey Kelton and Corey Kelton. Honorary Pallbearers are Ron Woolley, Bob Waymire, David Jackson, Tom Allgood, Don Wilkinson, Vernon Felder and Robert Johnston.In lieu of flowers please donate to the Mt.
