Born in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, October 18, 1944, she was the daughter of Ruby Hughes and the late Jack Hughes. Mattie worked in the nursing field in Alabama for many years. She moved to Ballston Spa in 1996 and worked at the Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Mattie is survived by her husband, Richard Baird, her children, Thomas Paul of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Jeneau Paul of Houston, Texas, Wayne Paul of Tonopah, Nevada, and John Paul of West Milton, her mother, Ruby Hughes of Birmingham, Alabama, sister, Claudette Headley of Prattville, Alabama, and 3 grandchildren, Amie, Thomas and Brandon. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 22, from 6-8pm at the Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A service will follow at 8pm.
