Jackie Dean West, Sr., son of John W. and Ida Teer West, was born June 4, 1938, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in Lebanon North Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, one month, and fourteen days.
On August 8, 1968, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Sue Wilson, and they shared forty-eight years before her passing on February 1, 2017.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Howard, John, Charles, and Dwite West; and three sisters, Pauline Keith, Darlene, and Wanda Jo Knight.
Jackie is survived by five daughters, Cindy West, Wendy West, Tammie Knab, and her husband, Shane, all of Lebanon, Missouri, Virginia Jones, and her husband, B. J., of Phillipsburg, Missouri, and Ida Giese, of Cape Coral, Florida; five sons, Jackie West, Jr., Joe West, James West, Robert West, and John West, all of Lebanon, Missouri; twenty-four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Don West, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; two sisters, Rosalee Young, of the State of Oklahoma, and Anna Sue Holland, and her husband, Eddie, of DeLeon, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Lebanon area and then joined the military as a young man. He served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in San Bernardino, California for part of his time in the military. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Lebanon where he worked as a cafeteria supervisor at Fort Leonard Wood. He then worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He had been employed by Tracker Marine for many years before retiring.
He enjoyed being outdoors where he liked hunting, fishing, gardening, and growing beautiful flowers. He loved animals of all kinds but especially pigeons. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was very patriotic and was proud of his military service in the Marine Corps. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jackie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
