Marjorie Elaine Ross passed away peacefully due to complications of breast cancer in Roseville, CA on December 26, 2016. She was born on April 18, 1929 to Omer Julius Garnett and Ruth Bell Nixon, who placed her into the Christian Woman's Benevolent Association adoption home shortly after birth. She was adopted in 1934 by Thomas Grover and Noma B. (nee Matthew) Mills, her name was legally changed from Catherine Marie Nixon to Marjorie Elaine Mills, and she moved to Indiana where she grew up. She was preceded in death in 2010 by her loving husband of 50 years Erwin Jerome Ross (born Erwin Jerome Scheid Melat) and in 2016 by her son Thomas Allen (Winger) Frame. She is survived by daughter Laura Denise (nee Ross) Smith and husband Michael of Loomis, CA, step-son Stephen Grant Ross and wife Carol of Walnut Creek, CA, 2 half-brothers Ronald Delbert Brewer of Golden, CO and Richard Paul Brewer of Rochester Hills, MI, half-sister Patricia K. Geers (nee Garnett) of La Plata, MO, (9) grandchildren, (10) great-grandchildren and (2) great-great-grandchildren.
Marge lived in many places throughout her life, including St. Louis, Indiana, Houston, San Francisco, Ventura, Fresno, Sacramento, and Roseville. Artistic and creative, her interests were knitting and sewing, cooking, canning, gardening, playing bunco and card games of all types. She knitted over 1,000 baby caps for the newborns at Sutter Roseville Medical Center! She loved nothing more than a road trip to places such as Palm Springs, Ventura, Graeagle, and Seaside, OR. She enjoyed going on cruises with her husband and family, visiting many Mexican ports, trips to Hawaii, and a whirlwind trip to Paris and Germany. She worked as a fashion Buyer for The Emporium in San Francisco, a telephone switchboard operator in Ventura, a counselor for the Diet Center in Carmichael, a consultant at a Roseville antique store, and a housewife. She had the “gift of gab”, where she knew many rhymes and sayings, and enjoyed spending time chatting with her friends and family. She enjoyed cooking and put on many memorable holiday dinner celebrations and backyard BBQs. For Marge, family and friends always came first, and she was best known as a loving wife, mom, grandma and friend. She enjoyed her life and will be remembered for her compassion, patience, wisdom, love, and grace.
