Gary G. Hester, 69, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at his residence.

Gary, son of the late Riley and Wilma Robinson Hester, was born Sept. 20, 1947 in Idalia, Mo. He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School class of 1966, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971. Gary retired in 1996 as Chief of Building Management for John J. Pershing VA Medical Center. He loved spending time with his family and being a foster parent. Gary enjoyed fishing, playing softball and coaching boys and girls little league softball.

On July 30, 1971, Gary married the love of his life, Jeanette E. “Nettie” Holdman in Dexter, Mo. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Brian Smith of Des Moine, Iowa; a daughter, Lori Clark of Ankeny, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dalton Hester of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Carl Holdman of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; and three sisters, Janice Midgett of Dexter, Bonnie Lefler of St. Genevieve and Patricia Essex of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.

A daughter Patricia Higgins, three brothers and four sisters preceded Gary in death.

A graveside service with full military honors will be at 1 P.M. Friday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Sister Lucille Hausser officiating and Elder Kevin Eudaly assisting.
