Ricky Woodward Nelson was born Feb 2, 1953.
His parents were Willie "Bill" Woodward Nelson and Emaline Maybell Ware. He has two brothers, older brother Emer "Sonny" Nelson and younger brother David Nelson. Has six sisters, Beverly, Jessie, Wilma, Wanda (whom has passed away), Georgia, and Thresia.
His mother Emaline died from leukemia when he was a young boy. His Aunt Marie Langley took all 9 children into her home to raise with the 3 she already had. His father Bill got into trouble and spent most of his time in and out of jail. Ricky did not have a very good childhood or role models during his up bringing.
Ricky enlisted in the Marines after high school, he was being trained to climb and fix telegraph poles. But before he was due to be shipped out to Vietnam, his knee was injured coming down from a pole and was honorably discharged from the Marines.
Ricky met Chequita Lynn Cox in 1975 at a horse auction. The courted and married the following year on March 27, 1976.
On Feb 9, 1977 their first daughter was born, Melissa Emmaline Nelson. He gave her a nickname "Hotshot". She was the only one to receive a nickname from him.
On July 11, 1978 their second daughter, Stacey Lucille Nelson was born.
On July 9, 1980 their third child, a boy was born, Jacob Woodward Nelson.
Ricky was no saint, but he wasn't all bad either. Had his issues with alcohol and chronic body pain. He loved doing what he wanted, like fishing and hunting, listening to his oldies loud. He enjoyed the holidays with his small family. Made chocolate fudge every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Had a sweet tooth more than a mile long, loved all the cakes, pies, peach cobbler, banana wafer pudding, and homemade candies. During the summer for BBQ's he made his incredible potato salad with sweet red onions. Was the jack of trades and master of none. He loved his kids and grandkids. His wife loved him more then he knew.
