Obituary
George Ray Schumpert, 87 of Blackville, SC passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 20, 2017.
Born in Batesburg, SC he was a son of the late Jesse and Josie Bedenbaugh Schumpert. He was a retired U. S. Navy Veteran, served in the Naval Reserves, worked ten years for Western Electric, twelve years for Schumpert Lumber Company and was a retired engineer with the American Commercial Barge Lines, U. S. River Boats. He was a member of Edisto Baptist Church and the Sons of the Confederacy.
A Memorial service with Military Honors accorded will be held three p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with Reverend Floyd Dukes officiating, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorials may be given to Edisto Baptist Church 12838 Main Street, Williston, SC 29853 or to Edisto Home Care and Hospice 1180 Boulevard Street, Suite C, Orangeburg, SC 29115-4312.
Survivors include his wife, Arnette Grubbs Schumpert of the home; daughters, Kim (Kurt) Bearden of Barnwell, Joyce Hurst of Blackville, Connie Edwards of New Ellenton, Elizabeth Padgett of Blackville; sons, Dale (Martha) Schumpert of Missouri, John Schumpert of Elko, Donald (Pam) Miles of Orangeburg; 19 grandchildren, Kurt Neil Bearden, Ryan (Brittany) Bearden, Nicholas Bearden, Jake Bearden, Bill Rogers, Andy Rogers, Jenny Chandler, Toby Williams, Gina Brock, Kim Priester, Laura Oberman, Rolanda Padgett, Norman Padgett, L.M Padgett, Hope Miles, Mark Davis, Tammy Davis, Angel Miles, Jeff Miles, Jr.; 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Barbara S. Smith of Williston; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Betty S. Burke, Lona S. Crouch, Helen S. Blanton; brothers, L.M., F.C., W.O., Ed, Ralph, C.O., Darril Schumpert and a son, Jeff Miles, Sr.
