Born in Marietta, he was the son of the late James Edward Farmer Sr. and Pauline Gilden Farmer.
A graduate of Carlisle Military Academy and The Art Institute of Pittsburg, he was Senior Vice President / Executive Creative Director for The Leslie Agency.
He was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Jean Robinson Farmer: two sons, Michael Farmer and his wife, Amy, and Scott Farmer and his wife, Lori, all of Simpsonville; a sister, JoAnn Dover and her husband, Ross, of Easley; and four grandchildren, Madison, Alec, Kelsea and Kyndel.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, with the Rev. Jerry E. Temple officiating. Interment will follow in Grand View Memorial Gardens in Travelers Rest.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the mortuary.
