He was a decorated Vietnam veteran serving in the Army as a Spec 4 during the Tet Offensive where he received the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Soldiers Medal for bravery when he dove into a raging river saving the lives of Vietnamese children. After serving in the war, he returned to his position at Harrison Radiator where he retired. He had a passion for antique cars and was one of the founders of the Olcott Cruise Night. He also enjoyed boating and fly-fishing on Lake Alice and operated a booth at Gordy Harper's Bazaar specializing in classic vinyl records.
He is survived by his fiance'e, Cindy Culverwell of Burt, NY; his daughter, Amy Cummings (Lockport, NY); and son, Ronald (Wende) Swift (Appleton, NY); four grandchildren, Brooke and Jameson Cummings of Gasport, NY and Andrew and Kevin Swift of Appleton, NY; sister, Sue Ann (Douglas) Brown (Newfane, NY); step-daughter, Hayley Lippman (Burt, NY); several nieces, nephews; and lifelong friend, Richard Leddy of Murfeesboro,TN. He was predeceased by his brother, John Swift.
